Résumé

K2HPO4·6H2O (potassium hydrogen phosphate hexahydrate) is a salt hydrate with a melting temperature around 14 °C. It shows an acceptable crystallisation speed until a crystal size of around 1 mm is reached after which the crystal growth virtually stops. For its usage as PCS in applications, basic material properties need to be determined. The melting enthalpy of K2HPO4·6H2O determined via T-History is (156 ± 8) J g-1. Density measurements of both the solid and the liquid phase reveal a volume change from liquid to solid of around -3%. Due to this small volume change, the determination of the crystal fraction is in K2HPO4·6H2O slurry difficult. In our work, the possibility of using a turbidity sensor to determine the crystal fraction is investigated and the recording of a calibration curve is achieved up to a crystal fraction of around 7 wt%.
