Résumé

Ammonia is one of the alternative refrigerants used in commercial refrigeration system applications. For evaporators and condensers used in these refrigerating systems, plate heat exchangers may be preferred because of their high compactness and low hydraulic diameters which reduce the quantity of ammonia needed in the refrigeration unit. Results are given of experimental work on plate heat exchangers performed on a two-stage compression system, where the evaporator can be used in two different ways: either as a direct expansion evaporator or as a flooded evaporator with gravity circulation. Thus, inlet conditions such as vapour quality, saturation temperature, mass flow rate, etc. can vary.
