Résumé

Liquid hydrogen storage systems require cryogenic insulation to prevent the evaporation of liquid hydrogen, which causes fuel loss. Multi-layer Insulation (MLI) is the most suitable solution since it effectively blocks radiation, solid conduction, and gas conduction. However, the performance of MLI can be significantly influenced by factors such as vacuum level, layer density, and material properties. Therefore, accurate thermal conductivity measurements of MLI are essential for its successful application. In this study, an experiment has been conducted to measure the thermal conductivity of MLI for liquid hydrogen storage systems, and methods to improve measurement accuracy have been investigated. The results show that axial heat transfer between the test chamber and the thermal guard chamber has negative effect on accuracy and must be minimized prior to measurement. This study is expected to provide foundational technology to optimize the MLI insulation performance of liquid hydrogen storage systems.
