Résumé

Melting heat transfer measurements for vertical ice-slurry flow have been conducted in a 0.61 m (L) x 0.31 m (W) x 0.025 m (gap) flat plate heat exchanger by varying the ice-slurry flow rate from 28.8 to 60.0 l/min while maintaining the inlet ice-slurry salinity, ice-slurry temperature and brass wall heat flux at nearly constant values. Within the range of Reynolds numbers 1600-3350, the Nusselt number and heat transfer coefficient were seen to increase with increasing ice fraction and Reynolds numbers when compared to the single phase convective heat transfer for laminar and turbulent water flows. The findings are consistent with previous results. However, the present heat transfer data showed a different dependence on the Reynolds number compared to studies conducted at much higher Reynolds numbers, suggesting a future need to investigate the ice-slurry heat transfer phenomena more extensively.
