Résumé

One of the most important tasks in engineering is to optimize the energy efficiency of production processes due to the limited natural resources. Especially in the chemical industry, this can be achieved by the utilization of waste heat which occurs in most plants. On the other hand, cooling is necessary in many processes in those plants. This cooling may be provided by heat driven absorption chillers instead of compression chillers. This leads to a lower consumption of primary energy. Thus, research on heat driven absorption chillers is important to gain higher energy efficiency. During the last decades, the absorber has been identified as the limiting component of absorption chillers. This component is often designed as a falling-film absorber with horizontal tubes, but the influence of many design parameters on the heat and mass transfer is still not completely understood. Therefore, first experimental results of the heat and mass transfer on a tubular absorber made of copper tubes with a small diameter of 12 mm are discussed in this paper. An aqueous lithium-bromide solution is used as working fluid and the influence of various parameters like solution flow rate and coolant flow rate is investigated during the experiments. The obtained results are discussed and compared with those published in literature and the effect of the coolant flow rate on the heat and mass transfer is evaluated for a wide range of the Film Reynolds number.
