Résumé

Experiments are performed to investigate heat and mass transfer characteristics in activated carbon fibre layer adsorbing water or methanol vapour as refrigerants. Discussion of the design of a high-performance adsorbent heat exchanger is presented. It is shown that the adsorption rate of water or methanol vapour decreases as the adsorbent layer thickness increases. It is attributed to a heat conducting resistance within the layer, due to the low density of carbon fibre. The influence of the volumetric rate of the layer on the adsorption rate is examined. In a compressed layer with a high volumetric rate, an increase in adsorption rate as well as the amount of adsorbed water or methanol vapour per volume of the layer has been also observed. Therefore, it can be concluded that the present system has high potential from the viewpoint of reducing the size of the adsorption reactor.
