Etude numérique sur l'écoulement de HFC-134a au travers des tubes capillaires adiabatiques en spirale.

Numerical investigation of HFC-134a flow through adiabatic spiral capillary tubes.

Résumé

This paper is an attempt to model the flow of refrigerant R-134a through the adiabatic capillary tubes used in residential air conditioners. The two types of adiabatic capillary tubes, viz., straight and spiral adiabatic capillary tubes, have been modeled. The present model is based on homogenous two-phase flow model. The proposed model predicts the length of the adiabatic capillary tubes as a function of refrigerant mass flow rate, capillary tube diameter, degree of sub-cooling, internal surface roughness and the pitch of Archimedean spiral. All the thermo-physical and transport properties of the refrigerants are evaluated by REFPROP 7 database. The simulation results are validated with the experimental findings of the previous researchers. The performances of the two geometries are compared and it is established that for the same conditions at the inlet and exit of the capillary, spiral capillary is found to have a shorter length.
