Résumé

This study attempted to design three innovative condenser coils with variant-rows configuration (VRC) to address the issue of uneven airflow in air-cooled water chillers without increasing total number of copper tubes, and total number of fans. The effects of the three VRCs on distribution of coil airflow and performance of heat transfer were analyzed using CFD airflow simulation and heat exchanger analysis. The results showed that the three VRC condenser coils all improved airflow uniformity and increased the heat transfer rate. Among the three coils, an asymmetrical VRC design (Case 4) showed the best improvement. In Case 4, the overall average flow velocity and heat transfer rate were higher than the baseline case (Case 1) by 10.3 % and 5.3 % respectively. The findings of this study are important as air-cooled condensers can be improved to better performance merely by changing the row configuration of the coil arrangements.
