Résumé

A model for heat and mass transfer in a coiled tube ammonia-water absorber has been developed. The film thickness and the velocity distribution of the liquid film were obtained by solving the momentum equation for the infinitesimal control volume. The finite volume method with upwind scheme was used to solve the 2-D diffusion and energy equations in the liquid film. A modified Colburn-Drew analysis was used in the vapour phase to determine the heat and mass fluxes at the liquid-vapour interface. The local heat and mass transfer characteristics show different trends because of the different variations of temperature, concentration and pressure of the vapour and liquid film when the vapour flows parallel or counter to the liquid flow. For the conditions considered in the study, water in the liquid film is desorbed near the top of the absorber in counterflow reducing the overall absorber performance.
