Résumé

Implementing an ejector in a vapor compression refrigeration cycle has been a popular research topic over the past two decades. Several studies have focused on new technologies for ejector controls, while other studies provided thorough coverage of the cycle advancements utilizing an ejector. However, most cycle advancement studies focused on either retrofitting an existing vapor compression cycle with an ejector or designing a rather complex new cycle in order to prove the performance benefit. This study, however, simulates the cycle design described in PCT Application No. PCT/US22/19352, which provides promising energy savings. This novel cycle design operates at slightly different conditions than the conventional vapor compression cycle while maintaining the same cooling capacities. The cycle design utilizes a very low ejector entrainment ratio, which is also a research area that has remained relatively untouched among recent ejector studies. In this paper, the novel cycle design, the ejector modeling approach, modeling assumptions and the resulting performance benefits will be reported using parametric studies for different working fluids. The benefits of one working fluid over another will be discussed as well.
