Résumé

The Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index is widely used in thermal comfort assessments and standards. Recent theoretical analyses suggested that its predictions will be inconsistent for people wearing different levels of clothing insulation. Twenty four seated male subjects gave thermal sensation and thermal comfort ratings in a selected range of thermal conditions, in three hours sessions in a climatic chamber. The mean skin temperatures were measured. Three levels of clothing and two PMV levels were investigated. The results provided evidence of the theoretical limitations. The practical significance of this finding has to be determined.
