Performance evaluation of a desiccant-evaporative cooling system.

Résumé

The system incorporated a rotary desiccant wheel impregnated with lithium chloride for humidity control and two-stage evaporative cooling, with a rotary sensible heat regenerator and high-efficiency spray chambers in the supply and return air ducts. A typical value of cooling capacity was 3 kilowatt, with a coefficient of performance of approximately 0,5. Several factors can seriously affect the performance of such a system (air leakage at the rotary exchangers, water carry-over from the return air spray chamber into the sensible heat regenerator, and desiccant degradation). Various methods of improving the energy efficiency and practicability of a desiccant-evaporative cooling system are suggested.
