Evaluation expérimentale et analytique d'un échangeur de chaleur géothermique sol-air à plaques plates.

Experimental and analytical evaluation of a flat plate type geothermal ground heat exchanger.

Auteurs : SUN S., MURPHY W. E.

Résumé

The paper addresses the experimental and analytical evaluation of a flat plate type ground heat exchanger for residential size applications. This design is different from the more common spiral pipe, or "slinky", type heat exchanger. A numerical model was established for performing dynamic finite element analysis. Test data from various operating and weather conditions are compared with the analytical results. A parametric analysis addresses the effects of soil properties, burial depth, geometry and seasonal conditions on heat exchanger performance. The enhanced heat transfer from the large surface area was found to still be limited by the rate of heat conduction through the soil. This limitation in heat transfer resulted in circulating water temperatures that would drop below freezing in relatively moderate heating climates. The extra cost of antifreeze in climates with moderate heating requirements would eliminate the cost advantage provided by the reduced excavation costs of this compact design.
