Résumé

A low-charge ammonia spray evaporator for a capacity of 3,200 kW (900 TR) was proposed for a process cooling application at a chemical Plant in Cheswold, Delware, USA. The new evaporator replaced two halocarbon centrifugal chillers that were part of a cooling system providing chilled water for process application. At off peak hours the chilled water is stored in a 2,500 m3 (660,000 gallons) insulated tank as a part of a thermal storage system to reduce peak demand. With the existing chillers the water temperature was at its best never lower than 4.4ºC. Therefore, the minimum storage tank temperature achieved was between 5.6-7.2ºC.
