Résumé

The paper outlines the results of ASHRAE research project 786-RP, the purpose of which was to prepare a guidebook on how to utilize manufacturers' published acoustical data in the design of quiet HVAC systems. Designers must be aware of the following points: uncertainties and limitations associated with current acoustical data available on HVAC products; factors associated with the various acoustical paths that must be considered in the design of noise control; current literature does not always provide adequate guidance in the selection and verification of appropriate design noise criteria; the proper use of application information and consideration of external "system effects" to avoid noise problems are essential in the early stages of system design.
