Faisabilité de l'utilisation d'énergie solaire pour le transport frigorifique des produits alimentaires.

Feasibility of the use of solar energy for food transport refrigeration.

Résumé

To protect perishable products during land transportation, vapour compression refrigeration units are usually installed on vans and heavy goods vehicles. Most of these units are driven by a diesel engine, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions and noise. A recent project in the UK funded by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has looked at the feasibility of using solar energy to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in refrigerated food transportation. The results indicate that in the UK climate PV panels can power electrically driven refrigeration units for food transport refrigeration but in most instances an auxiliary power source will be required. A PV-powered system can currently compete with diesel powered vapour compression systems for only certain journeys and climatic conditions but such systems will become more attractive as the capital costs of solar technologies decrease and diesel prices increase.
