Résumé

This review article presents the current trends and extensive view of functionally secondary refrigerants, especially phase-change slurries which consist of a mixture of heat transfer medium like water and another phase-change material like a paraffin wax. This type of phase-change slurry offers attractive opportunities for thermal energy storage, thermal energy transportation and heat transfer enhancement of a heat exchanger as a secondary refrigerant. This article describes the classification, heat transfer and hydrodynamic characteristics of some phase-change slurries like ice slurry, phase change micro-emulsion slurry, phase-change microcapsule slurry, clathrate or hydrate slurry, shape-stabilized paraffin and polyethylene pellets etc. as a secondary refrigerant using latent heat between solid and liquid phases.
