Résumé

Numerous demonstrations around the world have shown that solar air conditioning is a technically feasible technology that utilises commercially available solar collector and thermal cooling equipment components. The technology has the unique ability to simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide a dispatchable form of electrical demand management for utilities. However, experience has shown that integration of the key components into robust and cost-effective systems is sometimes more challenging than expected. Some tips on design and common mistakes have been provided in this article. Market growth has been substantial, largely driven by the desire for green credentials and government industry development support. However, barriers exist and work is required to put solar airconditioning on a level playing field with other renewable energy technologies.
