Advanced cryogenic air separation plants for carbonaceous fuel-based ammonia synthesis.

Auteurs : XU J., AGRAWAL R.

Résumé

A novel cryogenic air separation cycle producing both nitrogen and oxygen at high pressures is described. In this process, both liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen streams from the distillation columns are pumped to the required high pressures and then vaporized by heat exchange against a pressurized portion of the feed air stream. This eliminates the need for both oxygen and nitrogen compressors and leads to substantial savings in both capital investment and power consumption. This process is particularly suitable for supplying high pressure oxygen and nitrogen needs of a carbonaceous fuel-based ammonia plant, as well as some high nitrogen demand steel mill applications.
