Résumé
Compression heat pumps with a condensation temperature of up to 120°C have been well studied and tested. As for the high temperatures of up to 150°C that are required in some industrial sectors such as drying, paper making and food preparation, only a little work has been done and there is no such machine in use. One of the most important problems hindering the development of high temperature compression heat pumps is discovering working fluids that can be used in that range of temperature with the necessary characteristics. The traditional refrigerant Rl14 cannot satisfy this application because its critical temperature is only 145.7°C. Rl13 is chemically unstable. R21 is chemically active and absorbed by some materials such as polymers, therefore it cannot be used though it has good thermodynamic characteristics. In their earlier studies the authors have proposed the possibility of using water as working fluid of heat pumps. The present Paper outlines the main experimental results gathered from a high temperature heat pump test set-up constructed for this investigation. The emphasis is on the system performances. The experimental results are analysed by exergetic balances and some technical aspects for high temerature heat pumps are given in this paper.
