Résumé

According to the article, the number of cases reported in 24 European countries for 1996 was 1,563 with the mean rate 4.4 per one million population. The highest number of cases was 430 in Spain, and the highest rate per million was 29.92 in Germany. In contrast to these figures, there is no data on the number of Legionella pneumonia cases in Japan. Legionella organisms multiply when accidentally introduced into man-made environmental water systems, such as cooling towers, humidifiers, or home bath systems, and can be a potential source of infection. Measures to control and prevent Legionellosis are listed.
