Résumé

The article demonstrates how heat pumps are indispensable in a future sustainable society. Applications for heat pumps in several areas in the built-up environment are wide and varied. There are however certain obstacles to be crossed between manufacturer and user, and standards do not always correspond with suitable conditions for heat pumps. Experiences abroad can help to mould a proper approach. The article sketches the current situation with regard to heat pumps and relates what is needed to realise their full potential.
