Résumé

This supplement of "Nature" attempts to collate and analyses the common challenges and opportunities facing science policy makers across the region. It looks in detail at the situation in some countries: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Cuba. It looks at Brazil's space program, telescopes in the Andes and Amazon biodiversity as examples, respectively, of two major science projects. In addition, this issue contains an index to scientific opportunities (universities, foundations, Institutes, government groups, pharmaceutical companies, private companies, societies, congress, academies).
