Illustrates and describes the need for a buildings programme in the US, with the building sector consuming around a third of primary energy produced and two-thirds of all electricity produced. Lists and explains the overall goals and specific objectives of the program. Describes US building component efficiency improvements, 1970-2010. Summarises in a table energy savings to date by recent technical innovations.
