Résumé
Stem cells will undoubtedly play a key role in therapeutic medicine throughout the 21st century. Umbilical cord blood stem cells are stored at low temperatures in banks and there are concerns regarding the ethical status of certain private banks. The author foresees that transplant of cord blood from public banks could replace bone marrow transplants and underscores the need to ensure sufficient funding of public banks.
