Résumé

Zeolites are capable of adsorbing large quantities of different refrigerant gases in the vicinity of room temperature. If the zeolites are then heated in a closed system, they desorb these gases at considerably higher pressures and are therefore capable of replacing the mechanical compressor usually found in refrigeration and heat-pump systems. Alternate heating and cooling of the zeolite permits desorption of large quantities of refrigerant gases at high pressure at which condensation of the refrigerant gases occurs. Subsequent adsorption at low pressures causes evaporation of the liquid refrigerant, thereby resulting in a substantial cooling effect. During the past 20 years, several refrigeration and heat-pump systems have been developed utilizing water vapour as the refrigerant and natural chabazite from Bowie, Arizona, as the adsorbent.
