Résumé

Surface tension induced Marangoni-Benard convection occurring at the surface of a lithium-bromide aqueous solution with the addition of a small amount of surfactant was observed in order to investigate the mechanism of absorption enhancement by surfactants. Experiments were performed varying the initial surfactant's concentration from 0 to 200 ppm and the liquid layer thickness from 2 to 5 mm. Pentagonal or hexagonal cell patterns were clearly observed at the surface and these cells instantly grew in size from small to large. Thereafter, large-scale chaotic eddies were induced at the surface.
