Résumé

Magnetic refrigeration is a promising technology from energetic point of view as well as from environmental consideration. It is necessary now to specifically evaluate the performance of magnetic refrigeration system in order to use the results in industrial applications. In this paper, the authors present a numerical model conceived for a multi physics evaluation of a magnetic refrigeration system. Its purpose is to assess the performance of each component of this system according to its characteristics. The model takes into account the variable magnetic field, the performance and the ability of the magnetocaloric materials to achieve an active magnetic regenerative refrigeration (AMRR), and also the efficiency of the fluid flow heat transfer between the hot source and the cold source via the magnetocaloric material (MCM). This model allows us to optimize these elements and determine their impact on the overall performance of a magnetocaloric device. The authors present a finite differences model of AMRR simulation cycles for a sub-unit of magnetocaloric material crossed by micro-canals of fluid connected to cold and hot regenerative receivers. Thus, the calculation of output parameters such as thermal power passing from the cold receiver to the hot receiver has been done. Also the influence of magnetic characteristics, the influence of geometry of the MCM and the fluid flow were investigated over the functioning domain highlighting the current technological achievements and giving possible improvements.
