Résumé

The move towards sustainability in final energy use equipment is critical due to the current climate crisis. Sustainable air conditioning and refrigeration technologies play a key role in curbing rising global energy consumption, particularly when aligned with renewable energy sources. This study focuses on modelling heat and mass transport in a bubble absorber for ammonia/lithium nitrate absorption chillers, utilizing computational fluid dynamics. The absorber, consisting of a vertical double pipe tube, was modelled at the conditions for solar-driven absorption chillers. The comprehensive methodology for constructing a validated CFD model is presented, along with a sensitivity study examining key operating parameters impact on absorber performance indicators. Results indicate that the model can reasonably quantify the effect of the solution mass-flow, and cooling water-flow temperature on heat and mass transfer parameters such as absorbed mass flux and solution heat transfer coefficient of the solution side, paving the way for designing compact bubble absorbers with pipes using advanced internal surfaces.
