Résumé

In recent years, magnetic refrigeration has been regarded as one of the most promising alternative cooling technologies for its possible advantages in terms of efficiency and environmental safety. Modeling and experimental research to evaluate the thermal-hydraulic phenomena involved, as well as the performance of magnetic refrigeration cycles is primordial to warrant or refuse such claims. This work presents an open source CFD-based solver for the numerical simulation of the active magnetic regenerators (AMRs). The solver is capable of performing domain-coupled conjugated heat transfer calculations of an arbitrary number of solid and fluid regions in 2D or 3D geometries. It is expected that it would serve, in the future, as a platform for the design and optimization of different kinds of AMR geometries. The results shown in this paper for the parallel-plate geometry are compared with those of an in-house code developed by the authors' group.
