Résumé

In residential buildings, the major portion energy is consumed to produce hot water for heating and domestic hot water. By replacing fossil fuel-based direct combustion systems with systems that efficiently recover "ambient renewable heat", primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions could be substantially reduced without affecting end-user comfort. The EC has recognized air, water and ground as renewable energy sources and has indicated heat pumps as the most effective technology to make use of them. As a consequence many directives have and will be defined and formalized to drive the industry to design and develop products featuring higher efficiency and higher performance, following standards that will be easily recognized by end users. For example a new labeling scheme will clearly show the performance of heat generators by comparing the primary energy consumption factor (?%). The ErP (Energy related Products) directive provides also the methodology for obtaining the ?% value, which is directly related to the seasonal performance factor of the heat pump measured and calculated according to EN14825. The second part of this work is presented in this paper that shows the results of actual field test data from different installations across Europe. These heat pumps are equipped with the latest development of variable speed scroll compressor with enhanced vapour injection (EVI) technology. The field test data are used to validate a semi-empirical model to calculate seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of an air to water heat pump, driven by a variable speed scroll compressor. The model is presented in another paper.
