Résumé

The compressor is the major power-consuming component of a refrigerator. Accurate and validated modelling and quantification of the various losses inside a hermetic compressor helps in identifying critical loss areas and minimizing them. This becomes more critical as the baseline compressors become more and more efficient. Exergy analysis has been carried out (using engineering equation solver-EES) to identify major irreversibilities in the vapour compressor refrigeration cycle. Pressure, thermal and sealing losses in the compressor are modelled using 1-dimensional gas dynamic modelling tool viz. GT Power. Friction losses are modelled based on published correlations for hydrodynamic lubrication and electrical losses are based on bench tests and modelling. These individual models have been validated against published literature. From the current analyses it has been found that the valves, suction preheat, friction and motor losses are the most significant parameters that impact the EER (energy efficiency ratio) for a domestic refrigerator.
