Résumé

Air conditioning is the dominating energy consumption service in buildings due to increasing comfort expectation and growing the demand for cooling and dehumidification on indoor air. It is interesting to investigate the problem of how to reuse the condensate cold water produced by air conditioning systems in order to diminish their energy consumption. This paper presents an experimental study to model and validate the inherent operational characteristics of a direct expansion air-conditioner when combining with a heat exchanger installed in its discharge line after the compressor. The heat exchanger uses the condensate cold water which is made by the direct expansion evaporator to reduce the temperature of refrigerant entering the condenser. Therefore, the temperature of refrigerant leaving the condenser is reduced. This means a more substantial sub-cooling at the condenser outlet and therefore reduction of refrigerant temperature entering the evaporator, enhancing the system refrigeration effect and in turn its coefficient of performance. First, the mathematical model of the system components is presented. To investigate the potential of energy saving, the air-conditioner is installed in a real-world room and extensively equipped with a number of sensors and instrumentation devices for data logging and monitoring. To deal with high nonlinearity, complexity and building-dependency of the proposed system, a transient simulation software package, TRNSYS 16, is used for system performance prediction. The integrated simulation tool is validated by comparing predicted and measured behaviour of system components. Results show that about 11% power savings can be obtained by using the proposed strategy.
