Modélisation numérique d'un écoulement au travers d'un diffuseur de conditionnement d'air.

Numerical modelling of flow through air-conditioning diffuser.

Résumé

A high quality indoor environment, essential for occupant's health, comfort and productivity, is the need of the present world. Room air simulations are being carried out to predict the airflow inside the room. The airflow properties just at the exit of the air-conditioning diffuser are used as boundary conditions for these simulations. It is tedious to capture these airflow properties at every individual point by experimental method. This work aims at capturing these airflow properties by developing numerical model of flow through diffusers. The work elaborates on the development of numerical model of flow through air conditioning diffuser using computational fluid dynamics package, Fluent. Project involves modelling of flow through two types of diffuser: an asymmetric plane diffuser and a circular multi-cone diffuser. The simulations are done with different turbulence models and the results are validated against the experimental data from published papers. For the case with asymmetric plane diffuser, the predicted results are found to agree reasonably well with experimental results. Also, the modelling of diffuser flow was found to be highly sensitive to turbulence model chosen. For the case with circular multi-cone diffuser, the predicted airflow pattern is found to be similar to experimentally observed flow pattern, qualitatively.
