Résumé

There is a growing interest in the use of phase-change materials (PCM) in building constructions to add thermal mass in an
otherwise thermally light building. Compared to common thermally heavy mass construction materials, PCM heat storage capacity
is a discontinuous function of temperature around the melting point, which makes it difficult to model in most building simulation
software tools. A method to estimate an equivalent thermal mass construction element suited for building simulation software
is described. The method is based on setting up a set of linear equations for a simple dynamic simulation of room air temperature
variation for a case with PCM . The equivalent material for building simulation is defined by fitting the volumetric heat capacity
until a good match of key parameters as peak room temperature has been found. A worked-through example is given.

The mathematical expression is given in 10 - Appendix.
