Résumé

Order picking of deep frozen goods is currently done in cold storage rooms. A Dutch firm has made the pickwork ergonomic and user friendly: picking is done outside of the cold room in positive temperatures. The items are closely stacked on pallets within their designated corridor in a cell at -25 deg C. This cell was stored in a larger warehouse at temperatures ranging from 5 to 10 deg C. A mobile wall of loose and sliding panels provides thermal isolation, and special oil seals ensure air and moisture sealing. The filling capacity is up to 95% and leaves no room for workers. Picking occurs at positive temperature. This type of order-picking results in very high productivity per worker and considerable energy savings. Working expenses and capital investments are also lower than with the traditional method.
