Résumé

Ground water heat pump systems (GWHP) provide better coefficient of performance (COP) because it makes use of ground water whose temperature is lower and higher than the atmosphere during summer and winter respectively. The present research focusses on determining optimum levels of operating and design parameters of an 8-ton GWHP for space heating and cooling mode operations assuming different combination of cooling and heating periods. Six variables at three levels are considered for optimization using Taguchi method and utility concept. An L27 orthogonal array has been used to obtain the levels of variables for 27 trial runs for space cooling and heating modes of operations. The effectiveness of plate heat exchanger is found to be the most influencing variable on COP followed by the ground water temperature. The COP increases with increase in the priority of mode of operation with 4.6 and 3.8 COP for cooling and heating modes respectively.
