Optimisation des systèmes évaporatifs et déshydratants pour le conditionnement d'air dans les zones méditerranéennes.

Optimization of evaporative and desiccant systems for air conditioning in Mediterranean areas.

Résumé

This paper examines two different approaches for desiccant rotor performance as a component of the desiccant cooling system combined with an evaporative cooler system by showing the main characteristics of the evaporative cooling and of the adsorption dehumidification components. The key parameters are the effectiveness of the desiccant wheel, the effectiveness of the sensible heat exchanger and of the evaporative cooler. The results of this analysis reveal that all the parameters investigated negatively affect the performance of the desiccant cooling system. Evaporative cooler effectiveness has the least negative effect on the performance (less than 5%). However, reducing heat exchanger effectiveness to values commonly encountered in practice, reduced efficiency up to 50%. Apart from components effectiveness, low regeneration temperatures, associated with sources of waste heat as the regeneration energy source, have been investigated. COP increases with increasing initial temperature and humidity even though the regeneration temperature must be increased in order to produce the same final temperature and humidity.
