Résumé

The economic optimization of refrigeration plants is discussed. In the optimization procedure it is often necessary to compare several different optimized concepts of the refrigeration system, e.g. screw compressors versus reciprocating compressors. Optimization procedures are discussed and the optimum values found by the computer program are compared with results calculated with Bäckström's equations. Estimation of future changes in the cost of electricity and water, and rates of interest and inflation have to be included in the optimization procedure. Even so, it may be difficult to persuade the purchaser to afford the optimum plant.
