Résumé

A conduction cooled cryostat that is to be used for hydrogen isotopes cryogenic separation by using metal organic frameworks has been designed, constructed and tested with the scope to evaluate the cryogenics performances. The system is cooled by a single-stage Gifford McMahon cryocooler Sumitomo Heavy Industries SRDK-500B with a cooling power of 40 W at 20 K. Conduction-cooled thermal transfer is performed between the sample chamber and the cryocooler. During the tests, the lowest temperature reached was 16.2 K and a vacuum level of 10e-8 mbar. The temperature was subsequently increased by introducing a heat source inside the sample chamber. Finite element heat transfer calculations for different technical conditions have been performed. The process performances were optimized by varying the geometry and external heat capacities. A physical model of thermal connection between the sample chamber and the cold head was also tested.
