Chilling heat pumps.

Auteurs : BUTLER D., REAY D.

Type d'article : Article

Résumé

The article focuses on refrigerants used in heat pumps. Old working fluids (predominantly hydrofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons) and possible replacement working fluids are listed in a table. The suitability of hydrocarbon refrigerants, carbon dioxide, ammonia, air and water is discussed. The authors present a model of a semi-open mechanical vapour recompression water cycle installed at the Lego factory in Denmark, fitted with a deaerator to remove gases that do not condense. Energy use is about 50% of an equivalent R22 plant, although the capital cost is significantly higher.
