Résumé

The possibility of improving the performance of heat pump systems when the source temperature is 40°C and the duty temperature is 80°C is investigated. Normal single-stage or two-stage vapour compression systems using either R11, R12, R21 or ammonia are taken as the starting point. The advantages of using compression superheat, especially with R 12, are demonstrated. The Altenkirch cycle in which ammonia, desorbed from an aqueous solution at the heat sink temperature, is mechanically compressed and then re-absorbed at the heating duty temperature, is studied. It is concluded that the reduced power consumption of this cycle more than compensates for its higher capital cost.
