Résumé

There is a minimum outdoor air requirement for maintaining a healthy air conditioned indoor environment. Exhausted air from an air conditioned space is cold and dry, with a large potential to recover its cooling energy for preconditioning ventilation air. On the other hand, a heat pipe heat exchanger (HPHE) can be suitably used in a heat recovery system. Meanwhile, when an air conditioning system operates at a humid climate, a large amount of cold condensate is available. If the cold condensate can be distributed on one side of a HPHE and vaporized into the exhausted air stream, both the sensible cooling energy of the condensate and the latent cooling energy of the exhausted air may be recovered. A theoretical analysis and an experimental investigation on the efficiency of pre-conditioning ventilation air using indirect evaporative cooling based on heat pipe technology have been carried out and are reported in this paper.
