Résumé
This study addresses the problem of reducing energy consumption in buildings by using a newly-developed hybrid solar-assisted air conditioning system. In this system, a flat plate integral collector storage system is combined with an airconditioner to enhance the efficiency of the system. In this system, the water in the flat solar collector is in contact with collector’s absorbing surface and heat is transferred to the water and then to the refrigerant in the immersed heat exchanger. Once the room achieves its desired temperature the compressor will shut down but the cooling to the room would be continued until the refrigerant pressure within the circulation loop is not able to maintain the desired room temperature. In the new system, due to the heat being imparted into the refrigerant by using the flat plate collector, the compressor will remain off significantly longer. This process facilitates energy saving of up to 40%. In this paper, firstly the mathematical model of system new components is presented. The theoretical models are then validated against the experimental results. For this purpose, the system is outfitted with several datalogger and sensors to record the system performance data. The mathematical model is coded into a transient simulation tool, TRNSYS 16, using FORTRAN. The predictions from the models exhibit a good coincidence with experimental results. Performance prediction is then obtained over a very wide range of operating conditions in order to study the principal parameters influencing quantify possible improvements.
