Résumé

Formicary corrosion, sometimes called "ant's nest corrosion," has been tough to predict and correct, but new research has determined ways in which it can be prevented. The process is more likely to occur when a crevice exists in the heat exchanger. These crevices can exist at the base of fin collars or in areas where there is incomplete braze filler coverage at the return bend joint. To help minimize the potential for its occurrence, the first and most obvious method is to eliminate any moisture that may be present on or in the coil.
