Retrofitting building insulation design with a global energy approach.

Résumé

Reports that the Joint Research centre of the EU, Ispra Establishment, is currently carrying out an environmental assessment of its premises and site, the ECOCentre Ispra Project. As one of the first steps, a large 16,000 m3 experimental hall was retrofitted. Radical changes to the energy supply system, controls and thermal insulation were implemented, including the construction of a solar facade. Describes the considerable energy savings obtained using only environmentally-friendly materials.
