Résumé

Sorption compressors are basically thermal compressors and have no moving parts. The authors describe the realization of a 165 K demonstrator cooler and the design of a 5 K cooler at ESA's Darwin mission. The demonstrator cooler operates with small stainless steel sorption compressor cells, micromachined check valves and a micromachined Joule-Thomson cold stage. Two sorption cooler configurations for Darwin are presented. Both have a charcoal/helium stage to establish 5 K with a cooling power of 10 mW. One cooler operates with a metal-hydride/hydrogen compressor, the other with a charcoal/hydrogen compressor.
