Résumé

About a decade ago, a breakthrough in research into magnetic cooling made it possible to apply magnetic cooling at conventional cooling temperatures. Magnetic cooling is based on the reversible magneto-caloric effect (MCE). Cooling can be obtained by magnetising and demagnetising MCE-materials with permanent magnets, so very little electrical energy is needed. Furthermore, any fluid, such as water or air, can be used as the heat transfer medium. Research is still going on in the universities, and new materials have been found. The technology is now sufficiently mature to consider actual application, such as air conditioning, to become feasible.
