Refroidisseur à simple effet double étage : expérience du fonctionnement et perspectives.

Single-effect/double-lift chiller: operational experience and prospect.

Résumé

The efficiency of combined heat, power and cold production in total energy systems could be improved significantly if absorption chillers were available that can be driven with limited mass flows of low temperature hot water. For that purpose, a new type of multi-stage lithium bromide/water absorption chiller has been specially developed for the summertime operating conditions of district-heating networks and for utilizing the reject heat of cogeneration engines. It provides large cooling of the driving hot water (some 30 K) and large cooling capacity per unit hot water mass flow. Three plants of this novel absorption chiller have been designed and operated since summer 1996 in the district heating networks of Berlin and Düsseldorf and in the cogeneration system of the Munich Airport. The concept, installation and control strategies of the new chiller are described and a survey of the performance and operating experience of the plants under varying practical conditions is given.
