Résumé

This paper provides the main results of research and development into the area of low-grade heat driven ejector refrigeration machines (ERMs), using low-boiling point working fluids, that have been carried out in the Odessa State Academy of Refrigeration (OSAR) Ukraine, in the period from 1970 up to date. The guidelines of our R&D activity in the area of ejector refrigeration technologies includes the following main methods of enhancement of ERMs performance characteristics: a) proper selection of environmentally friendly, preferably natural, working fluids; b) optimization of ejector refrigeration cycle and operating conditions; c) optimum design of supersonic ejectors flow profiles and supersonic ejectors constructions, based on one-dimensional modeling and computational fluid dynamics modeling and experimentation; d) development of autonomous ERMs on the basis of the non-conventional and thermally driven feed pumps; e) development of combined, hybrid and multi-purpose systems utilizing different ERMs, etc. On the basis of obtained results, various innovative high-efficiency multipurpose ejector chillers and air conditioners driven by low-grade waste and exhaust heat and solar energy are developed and suggested for effective application in different areas including micro-trigeneration systems, solar air conditioning and cooling systems and other fields.
